Isolte Avila - Dance Director
Born in Cuba and raised in Puerto
Rico, Miami and L.A, Isolte trained with the Cuban Ballet and the
Netherlands Dance Theatre. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree
from California Institute of The Arts., where she studied under Mia
Slavenska (Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo) Gus Solomons, and Donald M'Kayle
(Alvyn Ailey) amongst others. She is the creator of the art form
Signdance Theatre, which she has developed since 1986.
Isolte is physically disabled.

Highlights of past work:
- Choreographer: Prometheus Bound at The Young Vic,London
- Relics, a film/installation collaboratiion with Adam Reynolds and Ruby Associates, funded by Arts &Business
- SDC's award-winning tour of Caliban & Miranda, dir. Garry Robson
- a Southern Indian Tour where her
performances were described as "Engaging, striking and .. flamboyant!"

at Vienna Dance Festivals, and a British Council-supported
collaboration with Choreoarte, Venezuela
- USA tours with Urban Warrior and Creative Access
Isolte is on the steering group for
the National Disability Arts Archive, led by Holton Lee.
Her work in Liz Crow's film, Frida Kahlo's Corset, has recently been featured as part of the F.K exhibition at Tate Modern, London
